The Board of Education recognizes that the School District's mission can be forwarded by revenues raised through certain commercial ventures, including commercial ventures involving advertising and corporate sponsorships. The purpose of any such ventures is to raise revenue for the District in a manner consistent with the School District's mission and core values. Thus, the District reserves the right to enter into the commercial ventures of its choosing and to negotiate the terms of such ventures including the content of any advertising appearing on District facilities, in District publications, or otherwise associated with the District. While the District is not obligated to enter into any particular commercial venture, the District shall not enter into any venture where the District determines that the product advertised, or the content of the advertising for the product is unsuitable for a preK-12 audience, or that the product or advertising is in any way inconsistent with the School District's mission, core values, and obligations.
The revenues received through this program will accomplish one or more of the following:
1. Enhance student achievement;
2. Assist in the maintenance of existing District athletics and activity programs;
3. Provide scholarship for students participating in athletic and activity programs who demonstrate financial need;
4. Assist the District in continuing to provide quality services;
Appropriate opportunities for these marketing activities include athletic facilities, but are not limited to:
1. Fixed signage;
2. Banners;
3. District publications;
4. District projects;
5. District and regional level activities at State tournaments (CHSAA approval needed);
6. Expanded usage of facilities beyond traditional use (i.e., concerts, rallies, ect.);
7. Athletic team uniforms/warm-ups and other student activities where uniforms are worn and allowed under State and national rules;
8. Individual school publications;
9. Television and radio rights where such rights can be sold, and are not in conflict with the rules of any other governing organization;
The following restrictions will be in place when seeking revenue enhancement. Revenue enhancement activities will not:
Promote hostility, disorder or violence
Attack ethnic, racial or religious groups
Discriminate, demean, harass or ridicule any person or group of persons on the basis of gender
Be libelous
Inhibit the functioning of the school and/or school district

Use any District or school logo without prior approval
Advertising/Revenue Distribution
1. Revenues from school site signage and banners will remain with the individual facility.
2. Revenues generated from District-wide advertising will supplement the District's general fund.
3. Revenues generated from the sale of television or radio rights will be used to support the budgets of the schools involved in the televised activity.
4. Revenues generated from the expanded use of District facilities will supplement the District's general fund.
5. Revenues generated by booster clubs, etc. will remain with those programs.
Corporate Sponsorship
Summit School District will maintain a corporate sponsorship program designed to provide a mutually beneficial relationship between the District and the business community. It is the goal of this program to achieve additional revenues to support District programs in a manner that will limit commercial exposure associated with this program to locations of major athletic and activity events such as stadiums, baseball fields, soccer fields, tracks, gymnasiums and auditoriums.
Official sponsors will receive certain rights and opportunities that may include the right to be an exclusive provider of services or products or maintain temporary naming rights for athletic facilities for the period of time addressed in the sponsorship contract.
Corporate Sponsorship Program Levels:
1. Stadium, electronic sign, scoreboard or athletic facility naming rights: Corporate sponsorship and temporary naming rights will be negotiated on a case by case basis.
2. Outdoor/Indoor athletic facility signage rights: Corporate sponsors will be allowed a 4' x 8' outdoor sign and a 2.5' x 4' indoor sign at designated facility areas. Other benefits may include season passes for admission to one or more sports for a specified number of seasons, special announcements during athletic events and printing of the corporate logo on the program.
Rights and benefits in addition to advertising, including temporary naming rights of facilities, may be granted to an individual sponsor. The rights will become part of the negotiated contract.
The Board of Education has the exclusive discretion to determine whether to accept or decline any revenue enhancement opportunity. The factors to determine if an advertising or corporate sponsorship opportunity requires Board approval is as follows:
1. If the revenue received exceeds $5,000;
2. If the public exposure of the advertisement is considered above and beyond routine community viewing;
3. If the business entity or relationship with the business entity requires further evaluation.
All other Board of Education policies (i.e., Building Usage) will remain in full force. All discrepancies between this policy and others shall be brought to the attention of the superintendent, or designee. The superintendent, or designee, will make these discrepancies known to the Board of Education with a recommendation as to the solution.
