File:  JGA - Assignment of New Students to Classes and Grade Levels

New students entering from public schools and private schools accredited by the Colorado Department of Education shall be placed in grades and classes on the basis of their grade placement/credits in the school from which they are transferring.

The district administration, through academic achievement tests and other evaluation measures as found necessary, shall determine the appropriate grade level/credit status of students transferring from home schools or private schools that have not been accredited by the Colorado Department of Education.  Such students must demonstrate proficiency in the district-adopted content standards at their appropriate placement level.

Because of attendance accountability for the finance act, all students attending school shall be assigned a full schedule of classes or enrolled in a work study program.

Students shall remain in the same class, classification for school year as their credits dictate at the start of school in August.  Credits earned during the year will not allow them to move to next classification at semester time.  For example, student A enters their Junior year with 20 credits, one less credit then needed to be a senior. He/she earns 4 credits by semester time but would not be allowed to be classified as senior but remain a Junior for remainder of year.  The student could graduate at end of junior year.
