NOTE: While Colorado school districts are not required by law to adopt a policy on this subject, some content in this sample reflects legal requirements school districts must follow. This sample contains the content/language that CASB believes best meets the intent of the law. However, the district should consult with its own legal counsel to determine appropriate language that meets local circumstances and needs.

Attendance areas for each school of the district shall be drawn up by the administration and approved by the Board, based on geography and student population projections.

In establishing school boundaries, consideration shall be given to the densities of students in an area in relation to the relative capacities of the schools, the equalization of enrollments in classrooms and efficient use of transportation facilities.

A student's designated attendance area shall be based on the legal residence of the parents/guardians.
