Parent/guardian refusal of state standardized testing

A parent/guardian who refuses for his or her child to participate in a particular state assessment or assessments shall make this request in accordance with the regulations identified within this policy.

1.  The parent/guardian must schedule and participate in a 'refusal of testing' meeting with the child's school leadership team.

2.  As part of the meeting, the school leadership team will seek to understand the cause for the refusal of state standardized testing, may provide factual information regarding state standardized testing and data usage, and will explain alternative activities or schedules for the student if a refusal form is filed. Additionally the school will provide the parent/guardian with the district parent refusal form (IKA-E).

3.  The parent/guardian must sign and submit the parent refusal form to the school no later than 7 days prior to the first day of testing.  If the seven days falls on a weekend or during a scheduled break, the form will be due on the last business day prior.
