(Implementation Plan for Student Individual Career and Academic Plans)
In accordance with the state law and the timeline prescribed by the applicable State Board of Education rules, the district shall provide a plan for the development and implementation of student individual career and academic plans (ICAP).
At a minimum, the district's ICAP plan shall address:
1. All students, beginning in 7th grade will have access and assistance on the development of an ICAP.
a. School counselors, school administrators, school personnel at the middle and high school levels will ensure that students and parents/guardians receive information and advising regarding the relationship between the ICAP and postsecondary goals and expectations.
b. According to state law the counselors will explain to all students and their parents/guardians the requirements for and benefits of enrolling in postsecondary courses pursuant to the Concurrent Enrollment Programs Act. The explanation to students' parents/guardians shall be by electronic mail or other written form. C.R.S. 22-32-109 (1)(nn).
c. Counselors will assist students to use the ICAP to (1) direct the student's course selections and performance expectations in at least grades nine through twelve; (2) assist the student in meeting the academic and career goals described in the ICAP: (3) enable the student to demonstrate postsecondary and workforce readiness prior to or upon graduation from high school at a level that allows the student to progress toward the student's postsecondary education goals, if any, without requiring remedial educational services or courses. C.R.S. 22-32-109 (1)(oo)(ll).
d. Summit School District may administer a basic skills placement or assessment tests to students in grades 9-12. C.R.S. 22-32-109.5 (4)(a). If such tests are administered, the scores of the testing shall be included on the student's ICAP. C.R.S. 22-32-109.5 (4)(b); 1 CCR 301-81, Rule 2.01(1)(k). If a student's scores indicate that the student is at risk of being unable to demonstrate postsecondary and workforce readiness prior to or upon high school graduation, school personnel shall work with the student and student's parents to create an intervention plan.
2. Summit School District will work with students and parents to create and update an ICAP for each student.
3. The activities that will be addressed at each grade level of a student's ICAP include but are not limited to the following:
a. 7th grade-Students will meet with a counselor and create a career cluster on Naviance.
b. 8th grade-Students will meet with a counselor to complete interest inventories and set goals pertaining to career and workforce readiness.
c. 9th grade-Every freshman will have a conference with an assigned counselor to set coursework path for high school according to goals in the ICAP.
d. 10th grade-All sophomores will participate in a job shadowing experience.
e. 11th grade-Each junior will participate in a joint conference with parents and counselor to determine progress on academic pathway. All students will be enrolled in a Junior Seminar REACH class that addresses such topics as career and college exploration, personal finance, and ACT prep.
f. 12th grade-All seniors will be enrolled in a Senior Seminar REACH class that addresses finalizing postsecondary plans. C.R.S. 22.2.136 (1): 1CCR 301-81.
4. ICAP and ICAP related data will be available upon request to the student, parent/guardian and/or approved postsecondary service providers in electronic and/or printable form. The ICAP will be stored in Naviance. CCR 301.81, Rule 2.01 (1)(j).
5. Professional development regarding ICAP implementation is in place for school counselors, school administrators, and school personnel.
6. The effectiveness and implementation of the district's ICAP plan will be evaluated each August by the secondary counseling department in the following ways:
a. Summit School District will use the ICAP Readiness and Development Tool to analyze effectiveness.
b. We will use the following data to further determine effectiveness:
i. Student use of Naviance.
ii. College acceptance rates, dropout rate, community college and vocational acceptance rates, and military acceptance rates.
c. We will use Naviance Alumni Tracker to determine completion rates for 4 year university, community college, and vocational schools.
