(Coaches)

The following regulations will apply to all non-certificated persons employed as part-time members of the coaching staff.

1.    General requirements

a.  Be a recognized expert in the sport or have a desire to assist the athletic program

b.  Complete an application for employment by the School District

c.  Meet Colorado Department of Education (CDE) requirements for certification or letter of authorization

2.    Additional requirements (at the individual applicant's expense)

a.  Successfully complete the American Coaching Effectiveness Program (ACEP) course of instruction

b.  Successfully complete the basic first aid course

c.  Successfully complete Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) requirements for certification

d.  Successfully complete District requirements as an activities bus driver

3.    Head coaches and assistant coaches

The District will consider the qualifications of certificated personnel as head coaches and assistant coaches before considering non-certificated non-school personnel.

4.    Recertification/renewal of letters of authorization

a.  Recertification/renewal of letters of authorization for non-certificated coaches is governed by CDE.

b.  Guidelines for recertification include an educational management process for a three-year or five-year letter of authorization under the supervision of an appointed District staff member.

c.  The purpose of the guidelines is to assist in the development of an orderly and timely process for planning and executing the recertification process.

5.    Guidelines for recertification

a.  Successfully complete one year of employment under a letter of authorization as a head coach or assistant coach of an interscholastic program

(1)  Meet all requirements of the District

(2)  Be successfully evaluated as a coach by the District athletic director and principal

(3)  Be recommended for rehiring as a coach

b.  Three- or five-year letters of authorization

(1)  Meet the requirements for a three- or five-year letter of authorization

(2)  Complete a coaching certification renewal plan

(3)  Meet all additional requirements of a non-certificated coach

(a)  Complete a first aid course every three years

(b)  Complete the ACED course every five years

(c)  Meet the requirements of an activities bus driver every year

(d)  Pass the CHSAA certification test every year

(4)  Develop and meet coaching education standards (60 clock hours of approved activities for recertification)
