File:  GCBA-R - Instructional Staff Contracts/Compensation/Salary Schedules

The placement of a staff member on the salary schedule will be contingent upon up to 10 years of experience and the number of approved hours in his/her teaching field.  Years of experience full-time in public or private schools will be counted in accordance with the existing salary scale and Board policies.  Non-traditional teaching experience may be granted on the basis of one year experience equaling one year experience credit.  Applicable non-traditional, non-teaching but work-related experience may be granted on the basis of three years of experience equaling one year experience credit.  Only those hours which apply to the staff member's teaching assignment in the Summit School District RE-1 and are current in nature will be counted for pay advancement.

Professional college credit courses as well as alternative professional growth plan credits may be counted on a teacher's salary schedule for an advancement in pay upon the recommendation of the respective building principal and approval by the superintendent.  All recommendations and approvals must be in advance of the time during which the course for credit is taken.  Any substitutions of recommended and/or approved goals or courses must be discussed with the principal in advance.  Teachers must present official transcripts or documentation to the superintendent's office following the completion of all approved course work.

A teacher who resigns from the District and later applies for new appointment may count his/her previous experience in the District in accordance with the current salary schedule.

When referring to working conditions, salary or benefits, the Current Professional Contract, which is currently in effect will prevail.  If an approved contract is not in place, these attached policies, regulations and exhibits will take their place.
