File:  GBCA - Employee - District Sick Leave Bank

The District sick leave bank will be available to all employees who are in a position eligible to accrue leave and have extended serious illnesses or injuries.  All employees shall contribute two (2) days of current annual or sick leave to the bank at the initial date of appointment.  The District sick leave bank may accrue an unlimited amount of days. Employees who are re-employed under PERA's 110, 140 or critical shortage provisions are included in this provision.

The following conditions and all current legal requirements will govern the granting of sick leave days from the bank:

1.  Sick leave bank days may not be granted until an employee has used all individual forms of leave (annual, sick or personal).

2.  No more than sixty (60) work days may be used by one (1) employee in one (1) school year.

3.  No more than sixty (60) work days may be used by one (1) employee for the same injury or illness.

4.  Since sick leave bank days are to be used only for serious illness or injury of the employee, medical evidence of such illness or injury will be required.

Sick leave bank days may be approved when appropriate documentation from a physician is provided to the Department of Human Resources.

A maximum of 360 sick leave bank days during any one (1) school year shall be allowed district wide. Approval of days requested in excess of 360 during one (1) school year shall be approved by the superintendent or designee.

When referring to working conditions, salary or benefits, the negotiated contract, which is currently in effect, will prevail.  If an approved contract is not in place, these attached policies, regulations and/or exhibits will take their place.
