NOTE: While Colorado school districts are not required by law to adopt a policy on this subject, some content in this sample reflects legal requirements school districts must follow.  This sample contains the content/language that CASB believes best meets the intent of the law.  However, the district should consult with its own legal counsel to determine appropriate language that meets local circumstances and needs.

The Board has the responsibility for maintaining an adequate insurance program covering its buildings and grounds, fleet of school vehicles and employees carrying out official duties for the district.  The Board also may authorize and participate in insurance programs for employees and students.

The insurance program shall be administered by the ______________________, under the general supervision of the superintendent.

The administration shall make reasonable efforts to obtain insurance at the best available rates-consistent with required coverage and service-through obtaining quotations or bids.
