File:  EBCE - School Closings and Delayed Starts

The Superintendent is empowered to close the schools, dismiss them early or delay the start in the event of hazardous weather or other emergencies which threaten the safety, health or welfare of students or staff members. It is understood that he/she will take such action only after consultation with appropriate authorities and personnel.

Parents, students and staff members shall be informed early in each school year as to how they shall be notified in the event of emergency closings or early dismissals.

When the Superintendent has closed schools or delayed the start of school, all buildings will be closed and staff members will not be required to report to work unless otherwise requested by his/her supervisor.

Delayed Start

In the event of a delayed start:

Staff members that are scheduled to work during the time of the delayed start will be credited in the District's timekeeping system accordingly.

•  If a staff member (licensed and/or support) has requested any type of leave and subsequently a delayed start is called, the leave will be processed as submitted and the delayed start time will not be added as the leave does not count as scheduled work time.

School Closing

In the event of a school closing:

Staff members that are scheduled to work during the time of the school closing will be credited in the District's timekeeping system accordingly.

•  All Staff members (licensed and/or support) who have requested any type of leave and a closing is called on the day leave is requested, the leave will be cancelled and not processed.

Any school closing that becomes necessary for an extended period of time outside hazardous weather conditions would be considered with a determination regarding pay made on an incident by incident basis.
